Course Description

The knightly art of medieval longsword. Nothing epitomizes the middle ages more than this iconic weapon of the aristocratic warrior class. This comprehensive course is the next step in your sword journey once you've mastered the fundamentals course. It will provide you with the essential skills in handling the longsword, primarily based on the early 15th century treatise Flower of Battle by Italian fencing master Fiore dei Liberi. In this course you will learn longsword guards, footwork, cutting and thrusting attacks, principles of defense and defensive techniques as well as tactical aspects of combat. This course is meant for those who have prior experience handling a longsword. The focus is on continued development of fundamentals, conditioning, strategy and tactics. This class is meant to develop your knowledge of the art through incorporation of the historical context, focused study and tactical methodology. Please bring: - Comfortable sport attire, long sport pants (no jeans) - Comfortable sport indoor shoes with non-marking soles - Water bottle The classes take place at the premises of Lynn-Rose School, 7205 Millcreek Dr, Mississauga, L5N 3R3. Other terms and conditions: - All the participants in programs at Signum Corvus are required to sign a liability waiver as part of registration. - Participants must be of minimum age of 16 years at the beginning of the course. For participants younger than 18 years, the liability waiver must be signed by the participant's legal guardian. - Dates of classes are potentially subject to change if our gym rentals are canceled. In such cases we offer make-up class on the next available date.
